A liveness check is used to determine whether you are physically present in front of your smartphone camera. Liveness technology is designed to detect and distinguish a difference between a real human being and anything that might impersonate an individual, for example, mannequins, wax figures, 3D masks, pictures or deepfake videos, etc. Therefore, liveness check protects against spoofing attacks.
While performing the liveness check a few photos are extracted from a selfie video for the purpose of ascertaining whether the holder of a government issued photo ID card or a passport and the person present in the liveness check photos is the same and can be legally issued a qualified e-signature.
